18. WHAT IS UP WITH PEOPLE THINKING “MEXICAN” IS A LANGUAGE?

I asked friends about thinks that make them say “What is up with that?” in order to inspire my blog, and Julie, or Yuliana Alfaro, she gave me a very funny one. This has never happened to me, but apparently it has to her, for she seemed very concerned about it. As we all know there are some pretty dumb people out there, and apparently some of those people can't tell the difference between languages and nationalities. Julie in a way seems white, and many people are surprised when they hear her speak Spanish, in fact I was one of them when I first met her in the seventh grade. Well apparently someone told her: “OMG you speak Mexican?!” Those were her exact words. I personally thought it was hilarious. So she is Salvadorian, and yet she speaks Mexican, I don't know about you, but that is hilarious. I have been thinking hard about this, and maybe people take it like the word “French.” French can be a person from France, or the language from France. Or maybe they are just stupid, who knows.
PS: Speaking technically here, I have realized that if anyone speaks “Mexican” the only ones who could do that would be only Mexicans. For the Spanish from different Hispanic countries have a difference in their Spanish. The Spanish from Chile to Colombia to Mexico to Spain are not exactly the same. They differentiate not only by accent, but there are words in particular that mean different things in each country.

17. WHAT IS UP WITH A WARM SEAT?

Have you ever been in the position where a random stranger siting next to you leaves and tells you to hold their spot? You don't really want to, but you just kindly say "Sure". Then pretty soon another person comes wanting to sit in that seat because it's the only one left. Now you're left with two choices, you can one, be the person that has to be rude and say "Oh no, you can't sit there” or two, don't say a word and let the person that originally sat there come back without a seat. Then they will think that you're rude for lying to them. I mean what is there to do? There is no correct path to choose, or right thing to do. You want to hold the seat for that stranger, yet you don't want to be a jerk to the other stranger. Let's say you are in this position, what do you do? The chair has no name on it, so who do you give it to?

16. WHAT IS UP WITH PEOPLE TAKING PICTURES IN THE BATHROOM?

We constantly take pictures of our selves, whether it is because you are like my conceded little brother, or you are going to send it to someone in a text, or perhaps you just want to upload it in MySpace, Facebook or any other kind of website we use. The thing is that we are always taking pictures, and something I have noticed is that it is always, always in the bathroom. What is up with that? I am not saying it is weird, even though it kind of is being an odd place to show your best face, but why do we (yes including my self) take our pictures in the bathrooms? It is always the bathroom, it doesn't matter if it is at your house or a public restroom. I wonder why is it that the bathroom seems to be our favorite place to photograph ourselves. Is it the lighting? Perhaps the mirror? Maybe it's because it is a place where intimacy is a big deal and we feel comfortable taking the picture in there. Maybe we should start decorating it to take awesome pictures with cool backgrounds. Ha! Maybe we should decorate the toilet, or she shower curtain. Speaking of the toilet, I wonder why people don't pose in the “seat-of-honor.” I personally take my pictures in the bathroom because there is good light, and well because of the big mirror. I wonder what are the other people's reasons!
PS/TIP: Here is a tip, I would strongly suggest that if you are going to take a picture in your bathroom, you should at least have the decency of cleaning it.

15. WHAT IS UP WITH GIVING AND RECEIVING AT CHRISTMAS?

I love Christmas! I am the one in my family who puts the tree and the decorations up on Thanksgiving day. And even though this Christmas sucked big time and I didn't get any presents or anything, it is still my favorite holiday and I am sure it will always be. Now let me get to my point. Have you ever received a gift from someone and immediately know who you want to gift it too? I know I have, I even do it with gifts that were not given to me. Of course you do this because the gift doesn't fit you, or perhaps you just didn't like it or was not what you wanted or expected. Even though I do it, and give away my gifts, I still have to say: what is up with giving what you are receiving? Why do we do that? I like to think that a present has more value because it was given with love, or because they simply thought of you. Yet I still want to give away my gift, and it is not because it is better to give than to receive. All I wanted to say is, what is wrong with us, and our bad habits? Is it that we know the present is not for you and in your mind you find the perfect owner, or is it simply because we are ingrates and we don't appreciate our gift? Here is something for you to think about.
